GUWAHATI, March 19: A pioneer institute of Guwahati - 'North East Institute of Fashion Technology' (NEIFT), playing a revolutiory role in Fashion Education in Assam, is organising a mega festival "CELEBRATING ASSAM" with the support of the State government.
The festival is being planned in a grand manner and will be presented by the Department of Handloom & Textiles with active participation of Department of Tourism, Cultural Affairs, Labour & Employment, Guwahati Municipal Corporation, EGM of Assam, SBI and ONGC with Radisson Blue Hotel, Gplus and Dainik Purbodoy as partners. The two day mega festival will commence on 21st March, 2015 (Saturday) with a colourful iugural ceremony at Sankardev Kalakshetra, where
Bismita Gogoi, Minister of Cultural Affairs, Handloom & Textiles will formally declare open the festival, which will feature a handloom thematic exhibition, art competition, photo exhibition, open forum-cum-panel discussions and cultural evening. The closing ceremony of the festival will be held at Radisson Blu Hotel, where alongwith a cultural programme there will be a fashion show highlighting the rich Assamese traditiol fabrics featuring a panel of six designers - ndini Baruah,
Alakanda Das, Arita Kashyap, Biri Chakraborty, Nirmali Das & Rinzing with tiol and regiol models. The Event Director of the festival Vikram Rai Medhi informs that this festival is a holistic approach of various sectors coming together under one platform to give a new dimension and innovative thinking to the growth of new age entrepreneurs and who will take forward our State's age old indigenous craft and weaving industry to global platforms.
