NERCORMP providing livelihood: Lowangdong

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

Itagar, May 5: The first review meeting of tiol Resource Magement Group (RM-G) convened by North Eastern Region Community Resource Magement Project (NERCORMP) Tirap was held at Khonsa in troubled Tirap district on Monday in which members of RM-Gs, HoDs, chiefs, GBs, SHGs and public leaders attended.

Minister for WCD, DoTCL Wanglin Lowangdong addressing the meeting said that NERCORMP provided the much-needed impetus and opportunity to the people of Tirap, Changlang and Longding to make the hitherto three backward districts vibrant and self-reliant by successfully implementing the various schemes and urged people to execute the selected schemes with utmost sincerity and devotion, informed an official communiqué.

He told the large gathering that the concept of convergence was existent in the Tirap societies in the past when barter systems with Assam and neighbouring villages were practiced.

Lowngdong said that NERCORMP, a livelihood mission sanctioned only for TCL by the central and state governments would prove to be a real boon for them in the long run and exhorted them to take maximum benefit out of the project.

The minister said that the people of Tirap had always been hardworking adding that history was evident when arteries of roads were constructed by them in the past on self-help basis under the able command of the chiefs reasoning that the question of failure of the schemes under NERCORMP did not arise at all.

He however, said that there was a time when people were lured by easy earning when timber industries flourished in the district which virtually destroyed a generation of youth.

Lowangdong further added that the topography and climate of Tirap were conducive for all kinds of crops and passiotely appealed the people to work hard to make NERCORMP a spectacular success and hoped that one day Tirap would find a pride of place in the state of Aruchal Pradesh, an official communiqué informed.
