NESSIA opposes hike in power tariff

Guwahati, Jan 31: The North Eastern Small Scale Industries Association (NESSIA ) expressed grave concern over the proposal of the Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd. for hiking power tariff again for all categories of consumers to meet additiol revenue requirement for the fincial year 2016-17 and 2017-18. Sailen Baruah urged Hon‘ble Chief Minister , Sarbanda Sonowal for his need base support to bail out APDCL from the present crisis and suggested  APDCL  to purchase  more Power at cheaper rate to overcome the present and future scerio of Power. Presently APDCL is spending around Rs. 330 crore per month on Power Purchase and transmission charges.
NESSIA  urged APDCL to emphasize  on reducing losses especially from big industries. There is apprehension that few sectors of big continuous Processing Industries are prone to power theft which APDCL should monitor and check regularly. NESSIA suggested that all H.T  Industry above  1 MW should be encouraged to purchase Power on “ Open access” with dedicated line. This was stated in a press release.
