Tezpur, July 27: Initiating three separate orientation programmes, Tezpur University, a premier centre of higher learning, kicked off its new academic year from July 25, 2017 with the enrolment of nearly 1,200 new students in various under graduate and postgraduate courses. Three separate orientation programmes, one specifically for the magement students, one for the students enrolled in under graduate courses and other for the newly admitted postgraduate students, were organized on the first two days of the academic calendar. M.G.V.K. Bhanu, Additiol Chief Secretary, Government of Assam and Rajkumar More, Director FINER and chairman TORSA Machines, were present as chief guest and guest of honour in the orientation programme organized by the Department of Business Administration.
Delivering his orientation lecture to the magement students, Bhanu encouraged the students to work hard and focus on their goals. He said that mediocrity could be overcome by putting hard labour and all successful people had this quality in them. He further said that the present generation was fast becoming prisoners of machines, such as WhatsApp and smartphones and losing real communication. For understanding communication, one needs to talk to real people, he added.
Rajkumar More, the other guest present on the occasion, explained to the students the challenges of running a business entity like TORSA Machines. He briefed the students about the profile of his company and described how within 15 years of its birth it had established a strong market presence in India.
Delivering his speech in a packed Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rabha Auditorium, Prof. Madan Sarma, Vice-Chancellor, Tezpur University, welcomed all the newly-enrolled students in the university and advised them to study hard and encash all the opportunities provided by the university to them.
The speakers from different domains included, Dean of Academic Affairs Prof. D.K. Bhattacharyya, Registrar Dr. Biren Das, Dean of Students’ Welfare Prof. Dhapati Deka, Director of Centre for Inclusive Development Dr. Rajeev Doley and Associate Dean of Students’ Welfare Dr. Mabendra Mandal. Tezpur University is currently offering 72 programmes through 22 departments and 12 centres under four Schools of Studies. The university also offers 11 programmes through its Open and Distance learning mode, stated a press note.
