IMPHAL APR 9: A meeting of the officials of the education department with the education minister M Okendra in the chair was held on April 4 to discuss the proposed new education policy. A government press release issued on Thursday said that the meeting was held in the light of the letter from the union government to the chief minister on the issue. The meeting decided to explore the possibility of having a chapter of the NE region in the new education policy. Manipur is likely to host a meeting of the education ministers of the 8 NE states to discuss the issue. The union HRD minister may be invited to the meeting which is likely to be held sometime this month or early May. The meeting also decided to constitute a committee incorporating directors and other high officials of the education departments. The draft on the new education policy will be prepared and circulated to departments by the end of this month to eble proper alysis, assessment and consideration of all important issues. The meeting also discussed other issues related to the topic.
