New vision for sports

Guwahati, June 2: The State Government will promote Sports as a way of life among the youth of Assam. Announcing this during his speech on the second day of the first session of the 14th Assam Legislative Assembly, Governor of Assam PB Acharya said, “ It will detect the sporting talent among the young generation and help them grow into becoming successful sports persons who will bring laurels to the state and the country in state, tiol, intertiol level competitions.”

He ensured that the government will review the State Sports Policy, 2011 and align the same with its new vision. The existing Sports Pension Scheme will be reviewed.

Moreover, the Abhiruchi Sports Day will be observed in addition to State Sports Day in memory of RG Baruah being celebrated on October 17.

The Governor told that the government prepared new vision specially on sports which includes improving the facilities of sports infrastructure in the schools and colleges in a phased manner; engaging professiol trainers for the young and enterprising sports talents; constituting a specialized talent search team to spot the budding talents ; promoting the players for participation in the prestigious tourments of the country; planning for better coaching of the promising young players; conducting coaching and tourments in traditiol sports; developing appropriate scheme for promotion of sports and physical education among women.
