Silchar, Feb 15: Two trackmen of Lumding Division mely Sibth Yadav and Tamal Das whose alertness and prompt action helped avert a major accident, were awarded by the General Mager, Northeast Frontier Railway, Chahatey Ram, with a citation and a cash reward at Lumding recently. It should be mentioned here that track maintainers Yadav and Das under Lumding Division were on night track patrolling duty on February 3, 2017 between km 208/2 to km 213/2 that connects ilalung and Longcholiet stations.

After reaching km 208/4-6 at around 11.52 pm, they heard sound of opening of clips that fasten rails to sleepers. They also saw four or five miscreants with torch lights in the area. Both Yadav and Das asked them to stop tampering with the clips. The miscreants instead of listening to them, threatened with dire consequences and asked to leave the site. They went back towards ilalung from where they communicated with the senior section engineer, P Way, Diphu, and rrated the incident.

On receiving the information, the senior section engineer immediately informed the divisiol control room. Train no. 15604 Ledo – Kamakhya Intercity Express which reached Diphu by that time was immediately controlled at Diphu. The senior section engineer along with RPF security staff and nine other trackmen started from Diphu for the site in the light engine detached from the said train. On reaching the site, they found around 15 pandrol clips missing from inside of outer rails with curve.

Moreover, 20 pandrol clips were found completely tampered with and scattered in the area. The track was repaired immediately and declared fit at 2:35 am same night. The passage of any train on the track badly tampered with at one point of the track would have resulted in derailment and also loss of life and limb. This timely action of Sibth Yadav and Tamal Das helped in averting accident involving 15604 Ledo – Kamakhya Intercity Express and saving loss of precious life and property.
