FROM A REPORTER

SHILLONG, June 7: The Coordition Committee on Intertiol Border (CCIB) on Tuesday reiterated its stand against the construction of border fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border area from Nongjri (EKH) to Jaliakhola (WJH) in a meeting with Border Area Development (BAD) Minister Prestone Tynsong. Speaking to reporters after meeting the Minister, CCIB spokesperson G.H. Kharshanlor said, “We will continue to oppose this border fencing until and unless the boundary line with Bangladesh is properly identified.”

He informed that the landowner demand for realignment is on grounds to bring back all the plots of land belonging to them duly supported by documents and records. He said that if the state government fails to address the issue, the landowners will not cooperate or participate in any survey to be conducted by the government in future.

Kharshanlor , however , informed that the minister Tynsong has assured them that the matter brought forward by them will be taken seriously.

He further said that NGOs, like KSU, FKJGP, HNYF besides Dollois, Sordars, and Headmen under the umbrella of the CCIB have unimously decided to protest against the intention of the state government to construct border fencing in these areas.
