NH 44 will remain open during monsoon, assures Assam

Agartala, March 26: Assam government has assured the tiol Highway No 44 connecting Tripura with the rest of the country will remain fit for all kind of transportations during the coming monsoon. 
N K Bora who recently took charge of the Chief Engineer of Assam PWD visited the Barak Valley districts recently and supervised the maintence work of the road and instructed all concerned to remain alert. 
Additiol Chief Engineer Kamakhya Bezbarua, Superintending Engineer Afzal Karam and other senior officials accompanied him. They also visited Kalain, Gumra, Digar Khal, Pathar Kandi etc to have an on the spot study of the latest condition of the road. 
Churaibari to Pathar Kandi portion of the NH 44 is perennially troublesome and last year Tripura remained totally disconnected from rest of the country through road for nearly three weeks due to bad condition of road in this patch.  
Tathagata Roy, Governor of Tripura persolly visited the area and took up the matter with the union surface transport minister Nitin Gadkari and the Chief Minister of Assam Sarbanda Sonwal seeking their persol attention. 
His initiative yielded some result. Assam government took up the maintence work on war footing and the road was reopened.  Governor Roy in a recent interview said, “The condition of the NH 44 is still far from satisfactory and I am not sure that the last year’s predicament will not be repeated this time too.” 
However, the officials in North Tripura district, after the Chief Engineers visit, said , “We are  confident that this time the NH 44 will remain working during the rainy seasons.
