NIA team visits attack site, captured terrorist being quizzed

Jammu, August 6: A tiol Investigation Agency (NIA) team on Thursday visited the site where a BSF convoy was attacked by two terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district and the village where one of them fled but was caught by residents and handed over to police, officials said.

Meanwhile, interrogation of ved, alias Mohmmad Usman/Qasim Khan continued in the joint interrogation centre here. “An NIA team headed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sunil Kumar visited the site at rsu llah in Udhampur district where terrorists yesterday (on Wednesday) ambushed a BSF convoy killing two troopers and injuring 11 others, top state government sources told IANS. “The team also visited the Chindi village where the LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba) terrorist Usman had taken three villagers hostage who later over-powered him and handed him over to police,” they added. Usman has already been shifted to the JIC in Talab Tillo area here where teams of state and central intelligence agencies are interrogating him.

State Director General of Police K.Rajendra Kumar also visited the JIC on Thursday to supervise the interrogation of the apprehended terrorist. Informed sources here also told IANS the NIA team is expected to shift the arrested terrorist outside the state for sustained interrogation to establish any possible links between the LeT personnel active in the state and those engaged in terrorist activities elsewhere in the country. The sources also said the NIA is likely to seek the assistance of a senior local police officer and another middle-ranked officer during the interrogation. These two officers have, according to sources, served in the NIA in the past. (IANS)
