No basketball

GUWAHATI, Feb 9: As expected basketball will not be the part of the ongoing 12th South Asian Games. Confirming the news to the media Chief Executive Officer of Games Injeti Srinivas said, “  We have cancel the basketball event following the world governing body FIBA's decision to de-recognize it.”

He also added :We tried to sort out the issues also discussed on different options like going ahead as per schedule even though the game will not be the recognized event. But response from the different quarters was not so good and it is because of that we decided to cancel the event.”

It may be mentioned here that FIBA recently in a letter inform all the participating countries of the South Asian Games that basketball event was derocgnized because of 'ucceptable interference by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) in the affairs of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI).'
