‘No fuel-run vehicle in college campus’

Jorhat, June 5: The teachers, students and working staff of Jagannath Barooah College here have taken a pledge on Tuesday not to bring vehicles that run on fuel to the college for at least one day from the next academic session which starts from August 1. The decision was taken during the World Environment Day celebration at the college premises. The celebrations were marked by plantation of saplings. The premier institute of learning in upper Assam would become the first educational institute in the state where such a move would be implemented. Subhasish Sarmah, a professor of the college told The Sentinel that the aim of such a move was to create an awareness to check pollution which has become a major concern to the environment. He said that a proposal in this regard was floated by the members of the students union of the college a few months back and the decision to implement the same was taken today by the college authorities.
