FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

SIVASAGAR, May 5: In a move aimed at ensuring road safety, the Sivasagar Police recently launched ‘No helmet, no petrol’ campaign by issuing an order directing petrol pump owners not to sell fuel to motorcyclists who are not wearing helmets. The directives were issued recently after a meeting held between Sivasagar Police administration and petrol pump owners. Following the directives, transport officials and police have been checking for the implementation of the diktat.

Besides enforcing the helmet rule, the police are also taking action against drunk drivers and uuthorized parking. “The motorists who are seen riding their two-wheelers without wearing helmets are being fined. We are keeping an eye on the motorists and uuthorized parking,” said a traffic policeman.

A petrol pump owner told this correspondent that they were complying with the instruction of the police administration and petrol is not being given to any two-wheeler rider who comes without wearing helmet. The number of road mishaps involving two-wheelers has been increasing in Sivasagar day-by-day.
