No major damage to plant: BCPL authorities

DIBRUGARH, Dec 30: In the fire that broke out in Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) at midnight on December 27, the magement maintained that “there is no major damage to the plant because of fire”.

The BCPL magement in a press communique stated, “The situation is under control and the restoration work in the affected area has been commenced on war footing.” It is expected that the restoration work would be completed soon and the “cracker unit will be made operatiol in scheduled time”.  

According to the communique, the fire took place in the pipe rack area in the hot section adjacent to Quench Tower. The reasons for which could not be ascertained. All the pipelines passing through the pipe rack are intact and there is no damage to any equipment except for some power and control cables which need to be replaced.

The communique further stated that other units of the complex were working normally and the incident would not mar the proposed commissioning of the plant by Prime Minister rendra Modi during the second half of January, 2016.
