No movie hall in Amethi, Smriti Irani arranges special screening of ‘Uri’

Guwahati: Union Minister Smriti Irani taking a dig at her opponents have said that the Congress President’s constituency does not even have a movie hall where people can watch a good movie. Irani has organized a special screening for the newly released Hindi movie Uri: The Surgical Strike for the public in Amethi free of cost.

The movie has been screening in Amethi since Republic Day on a four times a day basis and amazingly, the screening is arranged at a spice factory as there is no movie hall in Amethi. Notably, it is from this same constituency that Irani had contested in the 2014 Assembly elections and had lost to the Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

The first such screening of the film had begun on Republic Day with a video conference with the minister. In fact, the official poster of the movie also carries her photograph. The picture is basically based on the ‘surgical strike’ undertaken by India in Pakistan in 2017 and has been set up by Delhi-based company ‘Picture Time’.

BJP’s youth wing general secretary Vishuv Mishra who is vested with the responsibility of coordinating the screening, said, “There is no working movie theatre in Amethi and there was a demand from the public to view this movie. So Smriti Irani arranged for the screenings and personally addressed the audience through video-conferencing on Republic Day.”

Speaking about the ‘Uri’ screening, Mishra said that the mobile theatre can accommodate 150 people at a time and there have been at least four screenings of the movie a day — 9.20 am, 1.30 pm, 5 pm and 8 pm. The first screening of the film was done for the college students in Ramganj area on January 25.

As claimed by the party leaders, so far around 2,000 people have watched the movie. Mishra also added that the party’s message is especially to the youth and to tell them about the sacrifices of the country’s soldiers during the surgical strike. For uninterrupted screening of the film, a generator has also been arranged.
