No road, no vote: No. 103 Amguri LAC Villagers to boycott poll

GAURISAGAR: The first phase of panchayat poll is drawing close and candidates of various political parties in No. 103 Amguri LAC in Sivasagar district have been campaigning in full swing to woo voters.

But on Tuesday night, the villagers hung a banner in front of the road where it was written that no candidates would be allowed to enter the area as the road had not been constructed despite various appeals. The NH-37 connecting Gaurisagar water supply road under Kawaimari Gaon Panchayat is in a pitiable condition. The people have long been demanding the local MLA as well as the panchayat representatives to construct the road, but all their pleas have fallen on deaf ears. In the rainy season people face numerous problems as the road gets submerged by flood water.

On Tuesday, the villagers unanimously decided to obstruct the entrance to their village for panchayat poll candidates due to the alleged apathy of the government as well as panchayat representatives. The villagers have also decided to boycott the panchayat poll to express their resentment. Notably, the votes of the 50 families in the village will be a deciding factor for any candidate in the panchayat poll.
