No trace of kidpped traders

Shillong, Jan 17: The whereabouts of the seven traders from Assam who were kidpped by suspected militants from North Garo Hills remained unknown even as security forces have launched an operation to rescue them.

According to police sources, security forces from both Meghalaya and Assam are conducting operations.

It may be mentioned that the seven traders were abducted on Friday afternoon after returning from a weekly market in Kharkutta region of North Garo Hills.

Police said the traders were abducted around 4pm while they were returning from Dokhongsi weekly market near Kharkutta. The market is close to Assam’s Goalpara district and about 60 km from Resubelpara, district headquarters of North Garo Hills.

The abducted traders are Tustu Paul, Manoranjan Sarkar, Putul Mukherjee, Piyush Biswas, Pradip Das, Bijoy Sarkar and Ganesh Basu. They all hailed from Dorangigire village in Goalpara district of Assam.
