Non-fulfillment of tea workers’ demands: AASAA slams government

Golaghat, June 23: The All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) expressed strong reaction against the government for failing to resolve various problems of tea garden workers at a press meet held at Golaghat District Journalist Association’s office on Saturday. Talking to the media, the president of AASAA central committee, Stephen Lakra said that BJP government had been depriving tea garden workers since long. At present the tea workers had to work for Rs 137 as daily wage. The government surprisingly did not take any proper initiative to provide the demanded daily wage of Rs. 350. AASAA also alleged that Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha, Bharatiya Chah Mazdoor Sangha and the government had an alleged nexus due to which the minimum daily wage was not determined. AASAA said that the Sarbananda Sonowal government assured to provide land pattas to the tea tribes community and grant ST status to tea tribes, but it had apparently forgotten its pre-poll promises. On Saturday, a large bike rally was carried out in the tea garden areas which started from Golaghat and ended it Demow of Sivasagar district to create awareness among the tea garden workers against the deprivation of the BJP government.
