Nonglai village in Margherita lacks basic amenities

MARGHERITA, February 17: 124 No Margherita Legislative Constituency is regarded as a Congress bastion where many Congress leaders have won the election and have represented this constituency. Nonglai village under Ketetong Gaon Panchayat of 124 No Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency, however, lacks basic facilities even after 68 years of India’s Independence.

Villagers expressed resentment over the fact that although Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi keeps claiming about development in 15 years of his rule, they do not have access to proper roads, bridges and other facilities.  “Our MLA Pradyut Bordoloi remembers us only during elections. Several times we requested him to construct a bridge but only RCC pillars have been erected. We have to cross the bridge everyday but the bamboo bridge is dangerous to cross,” said a resident.

“The roads are in a dilapidated condition and during the rainy season the situation becomes worse.  Former Congress MP Paban Singh Ghatowar of 13 Dibrugarh HPC and present BJP MP Rameswar Teli have visited our village but they have only given assurance that basic amenities will be provided,” said another resident.

The villagers said that unless they are provided basic amenities before the assembly polls, they will give MLA Pradyut Bordoloi a fitting reply in the polls.
