North Cachar Hill Autonomous Council Poll on January 19

GUWAHATI/HAFLONG: The State Election Commission (SEC), Assam has issued the notification for North Cachar Hill Autonomous Council (NCHAC) poll. The NCHAC poll will be on January 19 and the counting of votes on January 22, 2019.

According to the SEC notification issued on December 22, 2018, filing of nomination papers for the NCHAC poll will start on December 24, 2018 and continue till January 3, 2019. While the scrutiny of nomination papers is on January 4, the last date for withdrawal of candidature is January 7, 2019. The election will be from 7 am to 3 pm on January 19 and counting from 8 am on January 22, 2019.

The model code of conduct for the autonomous council poll is effective from December 22, 2018. The Deputy Commissioner of Dima Hasao district has been notified as the returning officer (RO) for the autonomous council poll that involves a total of 28 constituencies with 280 polling stations. While 101 polling stations have been tagged as sensitive, 86 have been tagged very sensitive and 93 as comparatively safer in the hill district. The total number of voters in the district is 1,22,229 – 61,546 males and 60,683 females. The election needs 2,600 civil officials, besides 1,000 security personnel.
