North Lakhimpur citizens seek solution to Municipal Board imbroglio

LAKHIMPUR: The alleged conflict between Debashish Goswami, the Chief Executive Officer of North Lakhimpur Municipal Board, and its chairperson Surya Phukan is still a matter of concern in Lakhimpur. The conflict of the two executives of the constitutional body has yet again affected developmental activities in the urban area of North Lakhimpur.

Regarding the issue, the Lakhimpur district body of All Assam Unemployed Association (AAUA) organized a citizens’ meet on Wednesday in order to find a solution to the imbroglio. The meeting was held at Pensioners’ Bhavan of North Lakhimpur town. The State secretary of the AAUA, Jiban Rajkhowa anchored the meeting which was chaired by Lakhimpur District Xahitya Xabha vice-president Premananda Howborah.

District secretary of AAUA, Khirod Chetiya explained the objective of the meeting wherein prominent citizens of North Lakhimpur like Naren Sarmah, Chandra Borah, Hiranya Duwarah, Ananta Bhuyan, Keshab Bhuyan, Bonti Gogoi Howborah and Sarat Hazarika delivered speeches forwarding various suggestions in order to resolve the crucial problem.

After detailed discussion about the issues responsible for the imbroglio, a delegation of the citizens called on Lakhimpur DC Dr. Jeevan B and submitted a memorandum with a four-point charter of demands, urging him to resolve the deadlock. The DC assured the delegation to hold a meeting on Thursday to solve the problem.
