NPP accuses government of shying away from promises

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG, April 16: The tiolist People’s Party (NPP) today warned if the state government delays in providing rehabilitation package to cadres of the ANVC and its breakaway faction the ANVC (B), the former militants may return to the jungles.

Blaming Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, the NPP spokesperson, James K Sangma said, “It is very clear that Dr Mukul Sangma has tricked them into signing the agreement and has taken them for a ride with false promises.”

James also said that Dr Sangma is only further vitiating the environment which has the potential to spiral out of control.

According to the NPP spokesperson the party is concerned about the cadres who had genuinely believed in Dr Sangma who only falsely showed them promises of a better future. James also said that if the Meghalaya government continues to fool the ANVC and ANVC (B) in this manner, how one can expect other militant outfits like the GNLA to come forward for talks. “From these actions, it has become apparent that Mukul Sangma is leas concerned about bringing peace in Garo hills,” he said. Meanwhile, the NPP has sought the intervention of the Government of India in this matter.
