LAKHIMPUR: Vehement protest against the controversial stand of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the NRC issue of Assam still continues in Lakhimpur. Strongly opposing her stand, the activists of All Assam Unemployed Association (AAUA), in association with its Lakhimpur district unit, burnt the effigy of the West Bengal Chief Minister on Friday alleging that she has hatched a conspiracy to give rise communal conflict in Assam for her political gain by making statements against the final draft NRC.

The organization staged the programme on NH-15 just in front of the Adarsha Bazaar in North Lakhimpur town. While staging the protest, Nilamoni Hazarika, the president and Jiban Rajkhowa, the secretary of the organization came down heavily on her for her alleged nasty politics. It was pointed out that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is the outcome of the supreme sacrifice made by 855 martyrs during the anti-foreigners movement in Assam during the eighties of the last century. They urged the West Bengal Governor to remove her from the office of Chief Minister of the State.
