NRC Seva Kendra iugurated in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, March 26: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kokrajhar, Thaneswar Malakar on Thursday formally iugurated the NRC Seva Kendra in Kokrajhar to start the process of NRC update with immediate effect. Malakar iugurated the office of the NRC Seva Kendra at Timber Merchant Association located at JD Road in the heart of Kokrajhar town in the presence of senior officials.

Addressing the gathering, Malakar said the district was the first to open the NRC Seva Kendra to start the process of NRC update work. He said Kokrajhar was known to be an insurgency-prone district and known for its backwardness in all spheres but now, the district was no longer lagging behind other districts of Assam. He said the district administration had taken up prompt initiative for timely updating the NRC. Awareness meetings on the NRC update work were being held to do away with misconceptions among the people. He called upon all people to cooperate with the district administration to carry out the update work within the stipulated time.

The DC said that as many as 97 NRC Seva Kendras had been opened in the district on Thursday. Of these, 28 were opened in Kokrajhar subdivision, 24 in Gossaigaon subdivision, 15 in Dotma, 19 in Bogribari (Porbhotjhora sub division) and 11 in Bhaoraguri.

On the occasion of the opening of NRC Seva Kendra, three senior citizens of Kokrajhar were formally given their citizenship information copy. The programme was also attended by senior ADC PK Bhagawati, SP Sunil Kumar, Circle Officer Ansula Basumatary, Chairman of Kokrajhar Municipal Board Hareswar Basumatary and other officials.
