NREPAP launched for error-free electoral rolls

 Silchar, April 11: In order to bring about a totally error free and authenticated electoral roll, and after considering the inputs of chief electoral officers, the Election Commission has decided to launch a comprehensive programme “tiol Electoral Roll Purification and Authentication Programme” (NERPAP) soon with a time frame and defined goal. Addressing media-persons in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar on Friday, Abdul Rahman Sheikh, ADC, said the main objectives of the NERPAP are to linking and authentication of electors photo identity cards (EPIC) data of electors with unique identification data (UID) only.

  He added to say corrections of errors or any relevant entry within 15 days of production of documentary evidence will be taken up along with improvement of image quality and obtaining and feeding in the electoral roll (ER) database. He further pointed out feeding of number in EPIC database will be done with EPIC number by electors, SMS to 51969 or e-mail as well as by making a call to 1950 among others.

  In addition to that block level officers will collect the details of electors during door to door survey and the electoral roll officers and assistant electoral roll officers will collect the details through voter facilitation centres. For launching NERPAP, the preparatory activities, the chief electoral officers will brief the DEOs and EROs about the NERPAP and subsequently, the said programme will be launched and the political parties, media, NGOs and cultural and social organizations and seek their active cooperation.

  BLOs, pointed out A R Sheikh will form booth awareness groups for the launching of the programme successfully. Video documentation will also be done of the events as far as possible. In order to make people aware of the NERPAP, standard set of posters, pamphlets and publicity materials will be prepared and distributed. The detailed action plan for each activity of the programme will be chalked out by the CEOs and sent to the Election Commission for information. The press conference was also addressed by Simanta Kumar Das, district election officer. Relevant to point out adhar card has not yet been introduced in Assam. According to informed sources, after all the corrections in EPIC data of electors, adhar card may not be necessary in the state.
