NSCN (U) cadre held in Khonsa

ITAGAR, Feb 1: Personnel of Assam Rifles based in Khonsa has apprehended a self-styled caption of the NSCN (U) from Longbu village in Tirap district on Friday. The arrested ultra has been identified as Jenlang Moinyak (40), a resident of the village, a delayed official report said here today. On specific input from the locals about presence of some cadres for extortion at the village, the troops of 1st Assam Rifles conducted a search operation med in the adjoining jungle area of Longbu on January 29 last which led to arrest of the militant. One automatic pistol with ammunition and AK 47 live ammunition were recovered from his possession. The locals on condition of anonymity stated that the UG cadres have recently entered Tirap district and threatening villagers of Longbu and adjoining villages for extortion. Poor villagers who, are toiling in their fields for entire season to meet their ends meet for their families were expressing their helplessness as they don’t have any options but to pay the exorbitant taxes levied by the various insurgent groups including NSCN (IM), NSCN (K), NSCN (R) and NSCN (U), the report added.
