NSCN(IM) extorting illegal taxes

IMPHAL MAY 7: The tiol Socialist Council of galim (Isak-Muivah) which has been holding “political tals” with the Indian government for the last 18 years is alleged to be extorting illegal taxes from government employees in Tamengong district. A report in ISTV, a cable netowrk in Manipur, says that work permits are issued to the non-ga government employees in the district.The employee should pay Rs 300 per month. The work permit should be produced as and when demanded by the NSCN(IM) authority. Loss of the same should be notified to the NSCN(IM) autority immediately.The home ministers have been saying all these years that the centre shall not tolerate violation of the ground rules of the ceasefire and suspension of operations.However the state and the central governments have been remaining as silent spectators to the rtampant collection of illegal taxes.
