SHILLONG, Oct 5: Meghalaya cop Nurul Islam who was dismissed from service for allegedly raping two minor sisters on Monday appeared before the Court of special judge (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences).
Nurul, who is in judicial custody since September 11 appeared before the special judge (POCSO), AM Ripr.
While appearing before the special judge (POCSO), the accused was provided with the copies of the charge sheet submitted by Meghalaya police.
According to Nurul’s counsel, K Sur the next hearing is likely for consideration of the charges by the court.
Sur also said that he would move a bail petition for Nurul, after studying the copies of the charge sheet submitted by Meghalaya police to the court.
It may be mentioned here that Nurul who headed Ampati police station allegedly raped two sisters on March 13 and March 31, 2013.
Islam was taken into custody on June 1, 2013, and escaped the following day from police custody at Tura, the district headquarters of West Garo Hills.
It may be noted that, Nurul surrendered before the police on June 24 this year after being on the run for two years.
Initially, he was released on bail but on the intervention of the High Court on September 11, the bail order which was passed by the Special Judge (POCSO), Shillong on July 8 this year was set aside and quashed.
Nurul is currently under judicial custody.
