Officials inspect petrol pumps in Sivasagar

JOYSAGAR, April 26: Sivasagar district administration on Wednesday carried out surprise inspection of petrol pumps following several allegations for tampering of fuel dispensing machines and adulteration of petrol and diesel. The move comes on the directions of Nawab Alahzer Ali, who is holding the charge of Deputy Commissioner, in-charge, Sivasagar, after several pleas were submitted seeking directions to inspect the fuel quality and fuel dispensing machines at petrol pumps operating in Sivasagar.  The team comprising an executive magistrate and officials of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Weight Measurement Department, conducted checking at several petrol pumps located along NH-37 and Sivasagar town area. The team collected samples of fuel from the petrol pumps. On Thursday, a petrol pump near the Jengonikotia area of the town was sealed for allegedly using petrol dispensing machines with faulty reading and selling impure petrol and diesel to the consumers.
