Oil tanker seized from IOC Depot at Tangla in Udalguri

Tangla: Tangla Police seized a tanker full of illegal diesel while it was being unloaded at M/S Dinanath Das Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) near Tangla HS playground at Tangla Town in Udalguri District on Friday morning.

According to reports, the oil tanker bearing registration number AS02 JC 1358 was brought from Betkuchi in Kamrup to the depot, when a group of youths under the banner of Brihottar Asomia Yuva Mancha intercepted the consignment while being unloaded.

The proprietor of the depot allegedly couldn't produce the necessary documents of legally procuring the oil based on which the tanker was seized. However, Tangla police have refused to speak to the media while the conscious citizens have raised questions on the dubious role of the police in the matter as no case have been registered or persons booked in this regard till the filling of this report.

It is to be noted that as per Petroleum Rules, 1976, No person shall deliver or dispatch any petroleum to anyone in India other than the holder of a storage licence issued under these rule or his authorized agent or a port authority or railway administration or a person who is authorized under the Act to store petroleum without a licence.

The petroleum delivered or dispatched under sub-rule (1) shall be of the class, and shall not exceed the quantity, which the person to whom it is delivered or despatched is authorized to store with or without a licence under the Act.

Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-rule (2), petroleum Class B not exceeding 15,000 litres in quantity packed in sealed airtight approved containers may be dispatched to a person not holding a storage licence provided that the person dispatching the petroleum has satisfied himself that prior arrangement has been made by the person to whom the petroleum is despatched for the immediate disposal in the original sealed packages or such quantity as in excess of 2,500 litres.
