One dead, two injured in fire mishap

SHILLONG, Jan 2: A devastating fire near Polo, Shillong left one person dead and two police personnel injured. The fire in a residential place that housed three families is suspected to have started from a short circuit, informed the police who were involved in the firefighting incident. While the fire fighting team swiftly responded to the situation, the unreached location and uvailability of place to facilitate the fire tenders to the place of occurrence compounded the situatition. The Old house was nearly reduced to the rubbles. One occupant of the house identified as Rajeh Thapa died in the flames. Two others who were involved in the evacuation sustained burned injuries. One is identified as S. Schandra and the other as And. Close neighbors who spoke to this correspondent said that the fire was so intense that the LPG cylinder burst and took away the roof. The house belongs to Lariti Marabaniang and housed three families. The Police are investing the case while no exact assessment could be made on  the amount of the damage.
