GAURISAGAR, June 24: Promode Gogoi, a resident of Konwerpur Chiripuria village under Sivasagar Police station and an employee of Inland Water Transport Department (IWTD) deployed at Dikhowmukh ferry ghat on the outskirts of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar, drowned in the Dikhow river on Thursday evening but his body was recovered only on Saturday morning.

Gogoi probably wanted to cross the river by swimming as the boats were closed. But he was swept away by the river current. Local people and SDRF personnel searched for him but failed. On Saturday morning, local people saw a body floating near the Bokabeel projection - a ditch of Dikhow river - and informed the police and family members. Police recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. After post-mortem his body was handed over to the family and his last rites were performed. He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives.
