Tamulpur, July 11: Sensation prevailed after a wild elephant killed a person at Guwabari along the Bhutan border in the district of Baksa. The deceased person has been identified as Laksmindar Barman (54) of village Guwabari (Barman Supa) under Nagrijuli police outpost in the district of Baksa. According to local people, in search of food a big herd of wild elephant entered the village Guwabari and created terror in the village. People left their houses and went to secure places. Some of the villagers tried to chase away the herd of wild elephants but one wild elephant named Laden retaliated and attacked the villagers.

Some villagers managed to escape but Laksmindar fell on the ground. The wild elephant attacked him and as a result Laksmindar died on the spot. On Wednesday morning, Nikhil Singha, in-charge of Nagrijuli police outpost, reached the spot with a police team and later on the body was sent for post-mortem. Another herd of wild elephants entered the village Arangajuli and destroyed the houses of Lohit Sutradhar and Renu Sutradhar. The herd of wild elephants also ate all the paddy and rice stored inside the house.
