JOYSAGAR, Aug 5: In a big development in the Rs 100-crore ONGC iron pipe, scrap and crude oil smuggling case, one Sub-Inspector of Sivasagar Police and also the OC in-charge of Joysagar Police Station, M. Gogoi was suspended by the Sivasagar Superintendent of Police on Saturday.

As per reports, the Joysagar OC was the Investigating Officer (IO) in the Rs 100-crore ONGC smuggling and scrap tender scam where allegedly many high-level businessmen and also some top ONGC officials were directly involved. The investigation of this case was going on since about seven months and following this, about six accused iron smugglers were arrested by Sivasagar Police.

But there were some serious allegations against the acting IO and the OC of Joysagar PS. It was alleged that following some tacit understanding between the police officer and some accused businessmen and ONGC officers of Sivasagar, he did not take action against them. There were many media reports regarding the scam and the direct involvement of some high-level officers but the Joysagar OC refrained from taking action against them.

Following severe criticism against Sivasagar Police on social media, the higher authorities suspended the officer in-charge of Joysagar Police Station, who was the investigating officer in the case, sources informed.
