MANGALDAI, July 15: Joint Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, Paban Borthakur on Sunday formally launched a new innovative organic manure commercial production scheme titled ‘NADEP Tank’ at Bamunpara village of Mangaldai in Darrang district. The scheme, initiated jointly by the District Agriculture Department and the District Krishi Vigyan Kendra, aims at construction of 500 rectangular-shaped concrete tanks with a size of 72 cubic feet in 25 villages and 20 tanks in each such village. Borthakur ceremonially launched the programme in the residential campus of beneficiary Manabendra Sarma at Bamunpara by laying the foundation of a tank in presence of several senior officials, including District Development Commissioner Sweety Gogoi Kalita, District Agriculture Officer Nila Kanta Deka, Chief Scientist of District Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dr Pabitra Kr Bordoloi and Subdivisional Agriculture Officer Iftikar Noori Ahmed.

Speaking on the occasion, Pawan Borthakur described how the new concept developed by a Maharashtra-based farmer ND Pandhari Pandey, popular in his area as ‘Nadep Kaka’, might be beneficial for the youth of Assam to produce organic manure at a very low cost and thus make commercial profit. He urged upon the farmers to use organic manure for the sustainable productivity of the farm land, to test their land to find out about the deficiency of necessary nutrients, and to get a soil health card to treat that land accordingly.
