Organisations demand CBI probe into Farid's lynching

Silchar, March 9: The different organisations of Karimganj have decided to knock the door of tiol Human Rights Commission seeking justice for the family members of Farid Khan who was brutally killed in Dimapur recently.

A 12 hour dawn to dusk Barak Valley bandh called by scores of social and political organisations against the lynching and brutal killing of Syed Farid Khan in Dimapur on last Thursday passed off peacefully yesterday.

 Syed Farid Khan is a resident of Bosla village under Badarpur police station in Karimganj. The family sources said Syed Farid Khan had been in Dimapur for many years and owned a shop- SK Service- on Kohima Road in galand.

 The dawn to dusk strike was called by All Assam Minority Students’ Union in Cachar, while several social and political organisations in Hailakandi. Karimganj Congress and AIUDF also supported the 12-hour bandh that was called by a host of social organisations there.

 The vehicular traffic was almost off the road. The protesters took to the street and burnt tyres on the roads. In many areas, the effigy of the galand chief minister TR Zeliang was burnt.

 Moula Taibur Rehman Barbhuiya conducted the last rites, which was attended by more than three thousand people at Bosla under Badarpur police station yesterday. Different organisations like Hailakandi Lok Sabha Youth Congress Committee, district NSUI and Barak Students and Youth Forum, Progressive Students and Youth Forum (PSYF), Barak Development Parishad, All Barak Youth Students’ Association, All Manipuri Students’ Association, District Bar Association, All Assam Tribal Sangha, Assam Jamiat Ulema-I-Hind, South Assam zol committee of Jamat-e-Islami Hind, Ahle Sunt Wal Zamat, Karimganj district unit of Krishak Mukti Sangram Committee, dwatut Tamir and Democratic Rights’ Protection Committee, condemned the barbaric incident and demanded stern action against the culprits.

 Katigorah MLA Ataur Rehman Mazarbhuiya strongly condemning the incident said that the miscreants labeled false charges on Farid and then used it as weapon to attack the non-ga community people living in Dimapur. He demanded President’s rule in galand and CBI probe into the matter.

 A protest meeting has been convened in Badarpur last evening where the people demanded CBI probe into the matter. The infuriated people threatened to launch a massive movement if the perpetrators are not booked soon. The Badarpur Against Social Evils (BASE) demanded fincial compensation of RS 50 lakhs to the family members of Farid Khan.

 South Karimganj MLA and former minister Siddeque Ahmed said that the Centre must step in and ensure the safety and security of the non-ga people still living in Dimapur. Addressing a press-meet this evening at Badarpur, he lauded Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for his effort to bring in the body from Dimapur by Indian army chopper. He made an appeal to the Assam Chief Minister to take necessary step so that the justice is served to Farid’ family members, who have been in deep shock.

 Farid Khan was married to a ga lady had been living there for many years. He is survived by a three year old daughter, mother and five brothers. His father late Siraj Uddin Khan was in Indian Army and two of his brothers Kamal Uddin and Jamal Uddin are also serving the Army.
