Outsiders invested money in Tripura Chit Funds, says minister

FROM A CORRESPONDENT

Agartala, Dec 6 :  Are the owners of black money in India considering the left ruled Tripura to be a safe haven to dash their illegally earned money? The question came into fore after the state Fince Minister Bhanu Lal Saha expressed apprehension that many people from outside Tripura have chosen this state to deposit their money in the Chit Fund organizations active here.

‘People of Tripura can’t invest Rs 35,000 crore which is equal to the state’s three years budget’, he said adding that people from outside must have deposited money in the Chit Funds in Tripura.

The minister’s reaction came when he was talking to the reporters. In reply to a question he said the state government has attached the properties of the Chit Fund organizations but could not say if any step will be taken to refund the investors money by selling the Chit Fund properties.

Its worth mentioning that a recent state government report revealed, only the Rose Vally group had collected Rs 35,000 crore from Tripura.
