In India, about 26 percent of the population is under 14 years of age and about 13 percent is under five years. The second wave of the coronavirus outbreak has affected more children than before.

WHAT IS MIS-C:
MIS-C is a multisystem inflammatory syndrome seen mostly in children and is a serious condition. It is rare and the actual cause of MIS-C is yet to be found. The body becomes inflamed affecting most of the organs in the body and shows a link with post covid effects in children.

WHAT ARE DOCTORS SAYING:
According to Dr. Dhiren Gupta, Covid specialist and senior consultant at Ganga Ram Hospital, MISC-C can affect all the organs in the body including lungs, kidneys, and brain.
He also said, "Ganga Ram Hospital has 10 cases of MIS-C. It can affect all the organs including the lungs, kidney, and brain. However, if one recognizes symptoms at an early stage the patients can be treated well in time. Last year we had 120 patients of which all recovered except one."
Dr. Gupta further shared that the first few cases of MIS-C cases were reported from Punjab, Maharashtra, and Delhi. As per experts, it is a generalized phenomenon that was seen last time as well.

 AGE GROUP AFFECTED:
According to the academy data the surge in the MIS-C cases have mostly been observed in the post-covid patients between 4-18 years of age.

COMMON SYMPTOMS OF MIS-C:
Some common symptoms of MIS-C are fever up to three or five days, severe abdominal pain, loose motions, and a drop in blood pressure level. According to Dr. Gupta of Ganga Ram Hospital, parents and doctors need to be cautious of symptoms like a fever in children, especially during these times. People need to look out for signs like persistent fever up to 3 days or more, body aches with or without rashes. MIS-C can be fatal if not taken care of at the right time as it affects the organs in the body.
Some other symptoms also include, vomiting, rapid breathing, red eyes, enlarged lymph nodes, skin rash etc. However, symptoms can vary from person to person.

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT
MIS-C requires immediate and early treatment before it becomes hypotensive. Within 7-10 days most patients are generally discharged but some patients take time to recover from the effects.
