Over 100 illegal immigrants including Indians detained in US for illegally entering the country

Some over 100 people, comprising Indians have been detained by the US border and immigration officials in separate enforcement actions considering their illegal entry and living in the country.

Federal Officers from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) apprehended 45 people in the Houston area for violating US immigration laws throughout a five-day enforcement action. Although the agency did not provide the total number of Indian nationals arrested during the operation. Previously, almost 100 Indians, mostly from Punjab, were detained at two immigration detention centres for illegally entering the US through its southern border.

The local enforcement operation targeted fugitive criminals, many of whom had escaped from prior immigration proceedings, the agency said. According to the agency, some of the individuals arrested during the operation will face federal criminal prosecution for illegal entry and illegal re-entry after deportation. It further said that arrestees who are not being federally prosecuted, will be detained in ICE custody and administratively processed for transferring from the US

US Border Patrol agents detected 78 illegal immigrants in a separate action inside a locked refrigerated trailer at a checkpoint in Texas last week. The illegal residents were identified as hailed from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Brazil, Ecuador, India and Dominican Republic.

The Agency said that these criminal organizations continue to use tractor trailers and view these individuals as mere commodities without regard for their safety.

President Donald Trump had altered his controversial decision on immigration by signing an executive order to put an end to the separation of immigrant families on the US-Mexico border after widespread protests were organised against the move of his administration to separate children from their parents who illegally enter the country.
