Pakistan PM Imran Khan breaks diplomatic protocol at SCO Summit, kept sitting while others stood

Guwahati: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is in news yet again and this time again for the wrong reasons! The world leaders these days are seen uniting for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit which is held in Kyrgyzstan’s capital Bishkek and it is during this event only, the Pakistan PM could be seen breaking the diplomatic protocol.

The incident took place at the opening ceremony of the SCO Summit wherein all world leaders were seen standing to maintain the diplomatic protocol except for the Pak PM Khan. A video of the moment shows it clearly how Khan did not have the slightest courtesy to maintain the diplomatic protocol and keep standing as a mark of welcome to the head of states while they were entering the hall. There were almost a hundred leaders in the hall all of whom were standing in welcome of the head of states but Imran Khan did not feel it necessary to keep standing.

The video also shows that after a few moments Imran Khan realized that he is perhaps the only one seating in the hall, he stood up briefly, made a little bow and sat down once again while others were still standing and clapping to mark the entry of the head of states.

The video was shared on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s official Twitter handle.

Khan has taken it as a tradition to break the diplomatic protocols as it was an incident not much old when he was seen appearing to be ill-mannered towards the Saudi Arabia king. It was the 14th OIC summit that was held in Saudi Arabia when during a meeting with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz at the sidelines of the summit, Khan chose to speak to Salman’s interpreter and walk off before the translator could convey the message to the king. This video too was widely circulated that huge criticisms for Khan. He was criticized both by his countrymen and the people of Saudi Arabia for the disrespecting attitude.
