Pallab Lochan Das to Contest from Tezpur Constituency in the Lok Sabha Polls

Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced the third list candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha election and the party has named Labour and Employment (Independent) Minister Pallab Lochan Das to contest from the Tezpur Constituency.

However, the opposition Congress has named MGVK Bhanu from the same constituency who will contest against Das.

The other candidates who will contest in the Lok Sabha election are- Kripanath Malla (Karimganj) (SC), Dr. Rajdeep Roy Bengali (Silchar), Harensingh Bey (Autonomous District) (ST), Queen Ojha (Guwahati), Dilip Saikia (Mangaldoi), Tapan Gogoi (Jorhat), Rameshwar Teli (Dibrugarh) and Pradan Baruah (Lakhimpur).

However, three sitting MPs in the state have been dropped from the party's first list of candidates. The party has released the list of 9 candidates out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats refraining from making announcements for Nagaon. The alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) will contest from three seats while Bodoland Peoples' Front one seat.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of state for railways, Rajen Gohain had recently announced that he will not contest in the election this time as he has been charged of rape and said that until and unless the charge against him is cleared he will not contest any election.

Earlier, State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was expected to get the Tezpur ticket but BJP President Amit Shah announced on Thursday that as Sarma holds important responsibilities the party high command wants him to continue with them for the time being.
