Panchayati Raj Divas celebrated

Dibrugarh, April 24: As a part of the Gram Swaraj Yojana, the Panchayati Raj Divas  was celebrated on Tuesday at all 93 village panchayats in the district with day-long programmes. The day’s programme, organized under the aegis of District Zila Parishad and DRDA, began with prabhat pheri, which was followed by gaon sabha (village-level meeting) at each panchayat with active participation from local people. The meeting discussed at length various issues, particularly issues related to pure drinking water, sanitation and the role of women in village development. Detail information regarding various developmental projects and schemes were shared on the occasion with the people. The panchayat members of the respective villages later took oath that they would do their best for the development of their respective areas. To mark the day, cultural and sports events were also organized in each panchayat of the district with mass participation.

Hailakandi: The Hailakandi district administration organized a series of functions in 62 Gram Panchayats under five development blocks of the district on Tuesday on the occasion of Rashtriya Panchayati Raj Divas as part of Gram Swaraj Abhiyan from April 14 to May 5. Chief Executive Officer, Hailakandi Zilla Parishad-cum-Project Director, DRDA, NK Shantee Kumar Singha said that prabhat pheris (morning walk) at all Gram Panchayats began early in the morning followed by rural sports and cultural programmes. Special gaon sabhas were organized where pledge was taken by the gram sabha members to work for the development of their villages.

 Swachhta rally was also organized to create awareness on sanitation, health and hygiene. Members of the panchayats were honoured for exemplary works and for contributing significantly to the strengthening of the panchayati raj system. “Starting from the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar, a special outreach programme is on to reach out to the rural people to make them aware of the various social schemes. Awareness camps, seminars and meetings are being held to mark the occasion,” he said.
