Silchar, Sept 21: Binkandie Ghat’s Pandey family has been performing Durga Puja since 1911 and this year they are carrying on the legacy. Both Sridhar Pandey and Durga Kanta Pandey will be supervising the Puja. The first Puja was performed by late Sant Deo Choubey in October 1911 and since there has been no looking back for the family. The rituals along with the performance of the Puja will be done by Om Prakash Dubey with able assistance from the head of the family Durga Kanta Pandey. The temple, situated at PWD Main road was made into a pucca in the year 2004. Each year, around Rs.35000/- as dotion is accumulated. Quite surprisingly, members of Pandey family do not even take a single penny from it and gives it to Purohit. Even clothes and gold that people dote are given to the Purohit. On the ninth day of the Puja, vami, kichuri and kheer is distributed among the devotees. This Puja is the oldest Puja in Binkandie and is the biggest crowd puller in the whole Lakhipur sub division.
