Panel Sent To UPSC For The Selection of The Next Director General of Police (DGP)

GUWAHATI: The State government has commenced the process for selection of the next Director General of Police (DGP) what with the present incumbent Kuladhar Saikia, IPS of the 1985 Assam-Meghalaya batch, going on superannuation on August 31.

According to sources, the State Home and Political department has already prepared a panel of the 10 senior-most State Police officers of the of Assam-Meghalaya cadre. The shortlisted officers’ detailed list termed as the ‘Zone of Consideration’ is being sent to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). After scrutiny of the service tenures, the annual confidential reports (ACRs), and other details, the UPSC will shortlist three names for the State government’s consideration.

The five senior-most State Police officers are Arvind Kumar IPS (1984 batch), presently serving as Director, Intelligence Bureau (IB), Government of India, New Delhi; Anil Kumar Jha, IPS (1986 batch), CMD, Assam Police Housing Corporation Ltd; Jyotirmoy Chakravorty, (1986 batch) IPS, presently on deputation to SSB (Special DGP rank); AK Sinha Casshyap, IPS (1987 batch), presently serving as DGCD &CGHG, Assam; and Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, IPS (1988 batch), presently serving as Special DGP (Border) and Additional charge of Director, Fire Service Organisation, Assam. Arvind Kumar is to retire from services in August this year.
