Parag Chaliha memorial drama festival kicks off

SIVASAGAR, May 23: Former Axom Xahitya Xabha president Imran Shah on Friday iugurated the Parag Chaliha Memorial drama festival at tya Mandir here.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Shah stated that art, culture, and literature are the mirror of the society and Parag Chaliha worked in each field with a specialized concept.

Shah said, “Parag Chaliha had made immense contribution towards the art, literature, culture, theatre and each and every field. It is our duty to make the young people aware of the life and works of Seuj Konwar.”

The noted author said that he felt honoured to iugurate the drama festival dedicated to the memory of Seuj Konwar Parag Chaliha and hoped that the festival would certainly succeed in kindling interest in the youth.

Earlier, floral tribute was paid before the statue of Parag Chaliha by the dignitaries.

Organizers of the drama festival extended warm felicitation to late Parag Chaliha’s wife Smti. Dipali Chaliha, his younger son Saurav Chaliha, daughter-in-law Mrili Mahanta Chaliha, daughter Surabhi Chaliha Borgohain and granddaughter Mahathi Chaliha. Several playwrights, artistes, jourlists and many others were also present at the function. The three-day festival is organized by Seuj Konwar Parag Chaliha Memorial at Xamaroh Udjapan Samity, Sivasagar to pay a tribute to eminent litterateur, lyricist, dramatist, composer and sportsman  Parag Chaliha. Xumoti, a play of Dipak Bhuyan was staged on the opening day of the festival.
