'Parents have a major role in shaping children's character'

TEZPUR, Dec 26: The Annual day of the Tezpur Gurukul School was celebrated at Chotai Chapori near here recently. On the occasion, Madhurima Goswami, HoD, Chandraprabha Saikiani chair, Tezpur University delivered a lecture.

Addressing the gathering, Goswami said, “Besides teachers, parents too have a major role in shaping a student’s morals and discipline. Teachers are often blamed when students go astray, but before giving that opinion, we as parents, should reflect as to what we are ourselves doing for the development of our children,”

Stressing on quality education for students, the said that good schooling is essential for every child to fit in into the society.

“School life is a preparation to face the challenges that the bigger school called ‘world’ will offer us, when we are left out on the road of life to walk on. For many of us, the days spent in schools are the happiest and the best days of our life,” she said.

Sating that the talent of the students in every field should be appreciated, Goswami said that teachers act as the guides and guardians to guide them on the right path.  “In school, teachers try to remove evils from minds of the students by sowing some seeds of good qualities in them. A person becomes perfect with education as he not only gains something from it, but also contributes to the growth of a tion. To achieve this, there must be a collective and cooperative effort of the students, teachers and parents,” she added.

Earlier, highlighting the achievement of the school till date, a teacher of the school, Trish Medhi said that the school has received a letter of appreciation from the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development for its academic excellence.

In the programme, three students mely Syamoli Pradip Dutta, Sarthak Kr Baruah and Pakhi Priyam were awarded respectively with Madhab Chandra Bora memorial award and Suryadeva awards while Jagriti Sivam was awarded the best student award 2015-16.
