Parents urged to keep eye on children

TANGLA, June 27: Dimakuchi region of Udalguri district located in the Indo-Bhutan border area has been suffering due to illiteracy, fincial backwardness and transport bottlenecks. A meeting was held at Dimakuchi College on Sunday against drug abuse and illicit trafficking on the occasion of Intertiol Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The programme was organized by Bhergaon civil administration in association with local NGO Ferangadaw. The meeting was presided over by J. Basumatari, Principal of Dimakuchi College.

Udayaditya Gogoi, SDO(C), Bhergaon sub-division iugurated the meeting. On the occasion he spoke on the effects of drug abuse and illicit trafficking on common people. Requesting parents and guardians to keep an eye on their children, he said that it was difficult to give up drugs once addicted. He further said that drug addicted people could cross any limits to get their drug dose, which posed a serious threat to the society.

Earlier an awareness rally was taken out through the streets of Dimakuchi market which was flagged off by DN Hazarika, SDO(S), Udalguri. Hundreds of students, teachers, guardians and government officials, including Saptati Endow, AC, Bhergaon took part in the rally. Several distinguished people of the sub-division mely-Kamali Rani Basumatari, MLA, Paneri LAC; jourlist Rabi Ram Boro and Pabitra Deka addressed people in the open meeting requesting all to unite against drug abuse, illicit trafficking, witch hunting and not to spread or fall prey to rumours spread by anti-social elements.
