Paresh, Ranjan be punished as Menon: KSUPA

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, August 1: “Nobody is above the law. None of us is immune to the law. Why then a section of people in Assam isn’t punished for causing heinous crimes like the Mumbai serial blasts? The execution of Yakub Menon for his involvement in the Mumbai blasts is a good sign that the laws of the land are followed. Why haven’t  ULFA chief Paresh Baruah and NDFB chief Ranjan Daimary hanged for similar crimes like the Dhemaji blast on August 15,  2004 and the August 30, 2008 serial blasts that killed over 100 in Guwahati and elsewhere in the State?” questioned Krishak Sramik Unyan Parishad, Asom (KSUPA) president Pradip Kalita.

In a statement issued to the press today, Kalita said: “How come the law be different for commoners and politicians like former minister Akon Bora, ministers Sukur Ali, Rakibul Hussain and zrul Islam, former minister Chandan Sarkar and others? We have filed non-bailable cases against 23 gaon panchayat presidents in Samoguri LAC. Till now no action is taken against them.”
