Parliament model for Assembly sessions

GUWAHATI, June 6: The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Assam Legislative Assembly on Wednesday unanimously agreed to adopt the Parliament model in holding the Assembly sessions in the State. Accordingly, there would be three sessions with the total duration of at least 45 days in a calendar year.

As per the resolutions, the budget session would be called in February-March. While the summer session of the house would be held between July 15 and August 15, the winter session would be conducted between November 15 and December 15.

The BAC meeting, presided over by the Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami, further decided to periodically organize workshops, seminars and similar other activities for legislators as part of their study programmes. The Speaker was authorized to take further initiative in this regard by taking up the resolutions with the Leader of the House, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

Among those present at the meeting were former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and ministers Atul Bora and Pramila Rani Brahma, besides other members of the committee.
