Parliamentary Secretaries involved in coal business rally behind SSCMDF

FROM OUR STAFF CORRESPONDENT

Shillong, Aug 5: Three Parliamentary Secretaries of the present Meghalaya United Alliance (MUA) government are part of the SSCMDF, a body that slammed the government for failing to come out with the mining policy. Stephenson Mukhim, Justin Dkhar and Hopeful Bamon were part of meeting that made the SSCMDF to take a decision to frame a mining policy of its own.

The trio made a hurry exit from the Shillong club premises even as The Sentinel categorically asked the functiories of the SSCMDF on what deterred the three legislators to push the issue ahead within the dispensation that they are part of.

The answer given by a SSCMDF functiory is, “They are mere parliamentary secretaries and they have been vouching our cause”. He refused to elaborate on the steps taken by them to ensure the hasty formulation of the mining policy.

He denied that there is a conflict of interest in these parlalimentary secretaries  who are coal barons and elected legislators meant to look after the overall interest of the state. The SSCMDF functiory also listed the Mahendraganj MLA Dikanshi D Shira (wife of the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma) and his family members as stakeholders in the coal business. Pondering at the alleged apathy of the MUA government, the SSCMDF functiory stated “When the wife of the Chief Minister and his whole family are involved in the coal business, we wonder what is stopping them to push our case through”.
